Fiji Accommodations by Region – Suva, the Coral Coast, and Savusavu

As an archipelago of around 322 islands, Fiji offers lots of vacation options. Fiji’s accommodations can vary as much as the country itself. When choosing accommodations in Fiji, it is best to do some research to know a little about the different regions and what they have to offer. Then you can choose from the accommodations in that region. Here are some options.

Viti Levu is the largest island and hosts the capital city of Suva and the international airport in Nadi. Suva, located on the southeast coast, offers sightseeing, markets, museums, cafes, and the famous Thurston Gardens. For accommodations you might try the Holiday Inn Suva. It’s conveniently located on the waterfront. The on-site Vikatoria’s Restaurant has an extensive a la carte menu. The facilities include a swimming pool, gym and babysitting services. Another option is the Tanoa Plaza. Located in the heart of the city, it’s within walking distance of many shops, cafes and the Fiji Museum.

Along the southwestern shore of Viti Levu is the Coral Coast. It boasts the world’s second largest single reef. Not only does this area offer supreme diving and snorkeling and picturesque beaches, it also hosts the Kalevu Cultural Centre, Sigatoka Markets, and the Kula Bird Park. Accommodations include Sonaisali Island Resort located on a private palm-fringed island just 300 meters off the mainland and offering a 24-hour motor launch. Here you can experience many activities such as windsurfing and canoeing as well as cultural activities for free. Snorkeling trips and Island excursions are easily arranged. Another choice might be the Seashell@Momi which is geared toward divers and surfers on a budget. Rooms range from dormitory style to luxury apartments.

Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest island, is a lush tropical paradise. The town of Savusavu is much the same as it was 30 years ago with one main street and an open-air vegetable market in the center of town. Just a short walk up the hill behind the supermarket is the geothermal hot springs where local women still go to steam pots of root crops. Accommodations in the Savusavu area include the Koro Sun Resort. Surrounded by the clear waters of the Koro Sea, it is a great location for snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. This family-friendly resort offers a Kids Club with activities including beach games and traditional Fijian singing and dancing. The Namale Resort and Spa is a perfect island getaway offering sanctuary and peaceful seclusion. Here you are offered private decks and beaches, even private jungles. If you wish to venture out, activities such as diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, volleyball, kayaking, and sailing are available.

This is just a taste of the diversity that Fiji has to offer and a taste of the diversity of Fiji’s accommodations. You might consider looking into a trip to the Mamanuca Islands, the Yasawa group or the island of Vatulele. There’s so much variety in this one small group of islands. Check out for yourself all that Fiji has to offer.
